Youth Olympic Games of the III Olympiad BUENOS AIRES (ARG)

Competition format

MULTIDISCIPLINE EVENT

  • Gymnasts from all disciplines, Acrobatic (1 pair), Artistic (3 men and 3 women), Rhythmic (3 women) and Trampoline (1 man and 1 woman), will be drawn into 12 teams of 13 gymnasts in each team. The gymnasts will compete as a multinational and multidiscipline team.
  • Each discipline qualification phase will be part of the team event. Results are calculated by adding the rank obtained by each gymnast/pair within their discipline. The winner will then be the team with the lowest total score ("highest ranks").

 

ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS

In Artistic Gymnastics, men and women compete separately. Men compete on six apparatus: Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, Still Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar. Women compete on four apparatus: Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor Exercise. 
 
There are three competition phases in Artistic Gymnastics: Qualifications, Individual All-around Finals and Individual Apparatus Finals. 
Qualifications:
All gymnasts compete as individuals and the results of this competition are used to qualify gymnasts for the Individual All-around and the apparatus finals. No scores are carried over from the qualifications to the finals. 
All-around finals: 
The top 18 men and top 18 women from the qualifications proceed to the Individual All-around finals. In the finals gymnasts perform on all apparatus for the Individual All-around medals. The Individual All-around is considered the premium achievement in Gymnastics. 
Apparatus finals:
The top eight men and top eight women who placed highest on each apparatus in the qualifications compete for the apparatus titles.
 

RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

The Rhythmic Gymnastics programme at the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 consists of the Individual All-around event. 
 
There are five apparatus used in individual Rhythmic Gymnastics, however, only four are used in any one competitive cycle. 
 
In the Individual All-Around for Buenos Aires 2018 there will be Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon. There are two competition phases in the event:
 
  • Multidiscipline Team Event and Individual All-around Qualification
  • Individual All-around Final: The top eight gymnasts, will compete in the final 
The ranking of each phase is based on the scores achieved in that phase.
 

TRAMPOLINE GYMNASTICS

The Trampoline Gymnastics programme at the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 consists of a qualification phase and a final. Both phases of the men's event will take place on different days, and both phases of the women's event on another day, with the following format: 
Qualifications: 
Two routines: one first voluntary routine with 10 different skills including set requirements and a second voluntary routine of 10 different skills without limitations. 
 
Finals: 
The top eight gymnasts from the qualifications will perform a single voluntary routine of 10 different skills without limitations.
The ranking of each phase is based on the scores achieved in that phase.
 

ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS

The Mixed Pair event consists of a qualification and a final. 
Qualification:
A total of 12 pairs compete in three exercises: Balance Exercise, Dynamic Exercise and Combined Exercise 
Final: 
The top eight pairs from the qualification will perform a single Combined Exercise.
The ranking of each phase is based on the scores achieved in that phase.
