Competition format

These Individual World Championships comprise exercises on each of the various apparatuses to determine the men’s and women’s All-Around World Champions (All-Around Final) and the World Champion on each Apparatus (Apparatus Finals). 

The Qualifications, All-Around Final, and Apparatus Finals will be conducted according to the 2020 FIG Technical Regulations (valid in 2021), including Section 2 for Artistic Gymnastics, Reg. 5.2. There will be no Team Finals or Team Ranking in the Qualifications.

Qualifications

The gymnasts will be divided into groups as per the gymnasts’ drawing of lots results. The location of groups into the various subdivisions and apparatus as well as the starting order of the Federation in the first rotation of each subdivision were decided by the draw. Subsequent rotations will proceed as per the standard rules should the Nominative Registrations permit it. 

The results of the qualifications are not carried forward to any final (start from zero) and they are used to qualify gymnasts for the All-Around and Apparatus Finals.

All-Around Finals

The best 24 gymnasts from men’s and women’s qualifications will qualify for the respective All-Around Final with a maximum of two gymnasts per federation, and with four reserve gymnasts standing by. 

Apparatus Finals

The best eight gymnasts per apparatus from qualifications will qualify to participate in the Apparatus Finals with a maximum of two gymnasts per federation and with three reserve gymnasts per apparatus standing by.

In Apparatus Finals, the starting orders will be determined as per the drawing of lots.

Participation rights and age requirements

Senior Gymnasts holding a valid FIG License until the end of the competitions and with the correct age from FIG affiliated federations in good standings may take part in this event. 

  • The age of the MAG gymnasts in 2021 is minimum 18 years old (born 2003) or older. 
  • The age of the WAG gymnasts in 2021 is minimum 16 years old (born 2005) or older. 

All federations have a limited participation with a maximum of six male and four female gymnasts. 

 

TIE BREAKING RULES (ACCORDING TO FIG TECHNICAL REGULATIONS 2021)

Qualification to all finals: In the case of a tie, at any place the tie will be broken as follows:

Qualification for All-Around Finals

In case of a tie, in points at any place for qualification for the All-around Final, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The gymnast with the highest sum of the final apparatus scores obtained prevails (i.e. add the total of the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 of the highest final apparatus scores for men / the total of the 3, 2, 1 highest final apparatus scores for women.
  2. If they remain tied, the highest total E-score by adding all apparatus prevails.
  3. If they remain tied, the highest total D-score by adding all apparatus prevails.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification.

 

Qualification for Apparatus Finals

In case of a tie in points, at any place on any apparatus, except for Vault, in Qualification for Apparatus Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The gymnast with the highest E-score prevails.
  2. The gymnast with the highest D-score prevails.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification 

In case of a tie in points, at any place on Vault, in Qualification for Apparatus Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The highest of the 2 vaults before the average for the final score prevails.
  2. The highest E-score of either vault performed prevails.
  3. The highest D-score of either vault performed prevails.

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken.

 

Finals

All-Around Finals 

In case of a tie, in points at any place in the All-around Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The gymnast with the highest sum of the final apparatus scores obtained prevails (i.e. add the total of the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 of the highest final apparatus scores for men / the total of the 3, 2, 1 highest final apparatus scores for women.
  2. If they remain tied, the highest total E-score by adding all apparatus prevails.
  3. If they remain tied, the highest total D-score by adding all apparatus prevails.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification.

 

Apparatus Finals

In case of a tie, in points of the final score at any place on all apparatus except for Vault, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The gymnast with the highest E-score prevails.
  2. The gymnast with the highest D-score prevails.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification.

 

In case of a tie in points of the final score at any place on Vault in the Apparatus Finals, the rank will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. The highest of the 2 vaults before the average for the final score prevails.
  2. The highest E-score of either vault performed prevails.
  3. The highest D-score of either vault performed prevails.

If they remain tied, the gymnasts will share the same classification.
