Competition format

According to the new format of competition valid from 2021, participation in the Individual competitions is limited to a maximum of 105 gymnasts. National Federations (NF) are entitled to participate either with a team of 2 to 3 Individual gymnasts or with 1 Individual gymnast, based on quota places allocated by continent. They are not nominative. NFs qualified for these World Championships in their last respective Continental Championships. Refer to the Technical Regulations 2020 valid in 2021, Section 3, Art. 5.

All participants must be minimum 16 years old in the year of the event (i.e. born in 2005 or earlier).

The competitions will be conducted according to the new competition format as per the FIG Technical Regulations 2021, Section 3 for Rhythmic Gymnastics, Reg. 5.

 

Individuals

  • Qualifications
  • Individual All-Around Final
  • Apparatus Finals (Hoop, Ball, Clubs, Ribbon)

 

Qualification:

NFs have the right to choose the number of exercises to be performed per gymnast according to the following requirements:

NFs qualified with 2-3 Individuals:

  • minimum 1 and maximum 4 routines per gymnast
  • maximum 2 routines per apparatus per NF
  • total of 8 routines per NF

 

NFs qualified with 1 Individual:

  • maximum 1 routine per apparatus per gymnast
  • total of 3 or 4 routines per gymnast

 

All-Around Final

Group B (gymnasts ranked 10-18 from the Qualification) start the All-Around Final competition, followed by Group A (gymnasts ranked 1-9 from the Qualification).

All-Around Finalists will stay in the competition area after their last routine (fourth apparatus) to watch the competition. Dedicated seating will be allocated specially for them. 

 

Apparatus Finals

The 8 best gymnasts from Qualifications on each of the 4 apparatus can participate.

 

Groups

  • Qualifications and All-Around
  • Final for the 5 Balls exercise 
  • Final for the 3 Hoops / 2 Pairs of Clubs exercise

 

All-Around competition and qualifications for Finals

Each Group shall present 1 routine using 5 Balls and 1 routine using 3 Hoops and 2 pairs of Clubs.

 

Apparatus Finals

The 8 best Groups from Qualifications on each of the 2 apparatus Final can participate.

 

Combined Team Ranking

NFs with 2-3 Individual gymnasts and one Group will be part of the Team Ranking.

The Team Ranking is established by adding the 8 scores of the Individual Qualifications and the 2 scores of the Group All-Around competition. 

The gymnasts’ drawing of lots decided the starting order of the qualification competitions and the finals.

 

Tie-breaking rules

These tie-breaking rules define how to determine which gymnast, group or team should prevail in case of equality of points.

Qualification for Individual All-Around Final

In case of a tie, in points at any place in Qualifications for All-Around Final, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. the greater number of the 2 highest final apparatus scores obtained in Qualification (i.e. add the total of the 2 highest final apparatus scores)
  2. the highest sum of the E-scores on 3 best apparatus
  3. if there is still a tie add the highest sum of the E-scores on 2 best apparatus 
  4. the highest sum of the D-scores on 3 best apparatus 
  5. If there is still a tie, add the highest sum of the D-scores on 2 best apparatus

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken. 

 

Individual All-Around Final

In case of a tie, in points at any place the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. the gymnast with the highest total E-score (4 apparatus) prevails
  2. the gymnast with the lowest ET (execution technical) deductions (4 apparatus) prevails
  3. the gymnast with the highest total D-score (4 apparatus) prevails

If there is still a tie, it will not be broken.

 

Qualification for Apparatus Finals and Apparatus Finals

In case of a tie in points at any place on any apparatus for qualification for Apparatus Finals, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

  1. the gymnast with the highest E-score prevails
  2. the gymnast with the lowest ET (execution technical) deductions prevails
  3. the gymnast with the highest D-score prevails

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken

 

Group Qualification/All-Around 

In case of a tie, at any place at the Qualification/All-Around the following criteria apply: 

  1. The group with the highest E-score (two (2) exercises) prevails 
  2. The group with the lowest ET (execution technical) deductions (two (2) exercises) prevails 
  3. The group with the highest D-score (two (2) exercises) prevails 

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken

 

Qualification for Group Apparatus Finals and Apparatus Finals

In case of a tie, at any place to qualify for the respective final the following criteria apply:

  1. The group with the highest E-score prevails
  2. The group with the lowest ET (execution technical) deduction prevails
  3. The group with the highest D-score prevails

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken.

 

Combined Team Ranking 

In case of a tie, at any place, the team ranking will be determined by the following criteria: 

  1. By adding the ten (10) E-scores (eight (8) Individual + two (2) Group routines) registered by the team 
  2. By adding the ten (10) D-scores (eight (8) Individual + two (2) Group routines) registered by the team 
  3. By adding the nine (9) highest E-scores (from the eight (8) Individual + two (2) Group routines) registered by the team 
  4. By adding the nine (9) highest D-scores (from the eight (8) Individual + two (2) Group routines) registered by the team 

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken.
