FIG President Morinari Watanabe (JPN) attended the 2017 Gymnastics for All Colloquium, held March 23 – 26 in Tallinn (EST), to discuss the future of Gymnastics for All around the world with the participants and the Gymnastics for All Committee.
In his remarks, President Watanabe addressed the group that represented 20 different federations and all continental unions with a presentation on the growing importance of Gymnastics in today’s and tomorrow’s society, where the lack of physical activities is a threat to the wellbeing of all age groups. President Watanabe pointed out that especially among aging populations, Gymnastics can help boost quality of life.

The colloquium was also attended by the organisers of the King Harald’s World Gym for Life Challenge 2017 in Vestfold (NOR) and the 2019 World Gymnaestrada in Dornbirn (AUT), who presented to the participants on how to make it more attractive for federations and cities to bid for these events.

The topic of Social Media was treated via a link to the FIG Office in Lausanne (SUI), where the Communications Department gave an online presentation. The participants in Tallinn then had the opportunity to discuss and give advice about the subject to the GfA Committee.

Group discussion

Finally, planning and further cooperation was discussed with both the GfA Committee and President Watanabe receiving important input and suggestions from the participants.

The Estonian Gymnastics Federation prepared all practical details onsite and organised a visit of the unique medieval town of Tallinn for the whole group.

The next GfA Colloquium will be held in the beginning of 2018 with the place and the exact dates soon being communicated to all federations.
