Five female gymnasts selected as flagbearers for Rio Opening Ceremony

Even before the competition begins, the eyes of the world will rest on five gymnasts honored with the special task of leading in their country's delegation during the Parade of Nations at the Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony tonight in Maracana Stadium.

The five flagbearers, listed in order of how they will enter the stadium, are:

Rosannagh MacLennan, Canada, Trampoline Gymnastics

MacLennan won Canada's only gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Ana Sofia Gomez Porras, Guatemala, Artistic Gymnastics

Gomez Porras is competing at her second Olympic Games in Rio after London in 2012.

Neta Rivkin, Israel, Rhythmic Gymnastics

Rivkin, who competed at the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games, has been Israel's top Rhythmic gymnast for nearly a decade.

Catalina Ponor, Romania, Artistic Gymnastics

Ponor won three golds in Athens in 2004 and added a silver and a bronze in 2012.

Giulia Steingruber, Switzerland, Artistic Gymnastics

Steingruber, who also competed at the 2012 Olympics, became the first Swiss woman to win the European All-around title in 2015.
